Lands called 'Rutherford'

One of the stories about the Rutherford's is that we all come from the location called Rutherford. Everyone states this is the location is in Roxburghshire and to add on to this story it is said that we take our Rutherford name from this location. However another story that is held up for all Rutherford's is that we originate from the Flanders area, inparticularly from a town called Ruddevoorde and we came over with our name.

As these stories are a little contradictory, I decided to explore them further and along with curiousity I decided to see if there were any other locations that were also called Rutherford that some of us could have come from. While researching into this I did come across other locations - 2 additional locations in Scotland and 2 locations in England that were called Rutherford (spelt differently but all said as Rutherford).

Through researching it does appeared that for a couple of these other Rutherford locations, the family at the time of controlling them were known as 'de Rutherford' or 'Rutherford' due to having these locations.
