What's in a Name?

While researching I have come across first-names that seems not to match however they are what is called a diminutive name. What this means is a ‘pet name’ or a shortened name of the original name. Often diminutive names can be seen more often used within a particular family or group, that a particular form of a diminutive name is common to a particular family or group.
The following are some examples I have come across in records:
Dand; Dande; Dandy – Andrew
Hobbie – Robert
Jok; Jock – John
Batsy; Betsy - Elizabeth
